What is a Wedding Rehearsal?
A rehearsal is a practice run of the ceremony, usually held the day before the wedding. It helps everyone understand where to stand, when to walk, and what to expect, reducing confusion and unnecessary tension. Whether your guests already know one another or are meeting for the first time. Remember a rehearsal is a lovely way to bring everyone together. Most importantly, it can help calm the nerves of the couple and their wedding party.
Who Attends a Wedding Rehearsal?
- The couple
- The officiant or celebrant
- The wedding entourage: bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girls, and the ring bearer.

- Grandparents, parents, close family members and relatives.

What Happens at a Wedding Rehearsal
The officiant or celebrant will guide everyone through the ceremony step by step.
- Confirm where everyone will stand or sit. Begin at the ceremony area and show each person their position.
- Practice how to exit the ceremony room. Rehearse leaving the ceremony area first, as this is often the easiest part to learn.

- Review the ceremony cues. Confirm who will operate the music and when each person should enter, speak, or move. The celebrant is happy to help.
- Check the timing. Run through the music, vows, readings, and any other special elements of the ceremony.
Rehearsal Timing
Keep the rehearsal short and focused. Most ceremonies can be rehearsed in 45 to 90 minutes. Ask everyone to arrive on time to avoid delays. Invite them 15 to 30 minutes before the scheduled event.

Complete the rehearsal with a dinner or informal gathering. It is a lovely way to create shared experiences that strengthen connections and gives family and friends a sense of belonging.
